new year new teaching new art

First blog ever! not quite as confusing as i thought.
2012 seems to be going pretty well so far. We had a class trip to the Gallery of Modren art on tuesday which was a really nice start to the new year. I left feeling excited and motivated by the concept of bringing contemporary art into the classroom, and I think we all really enjoyed having the opportunity to have a good chat about the work on show.
It highlighted the challenge for us as teachers to initiate these discussions with children and channel our questioning to help tease out the opinions and initiate a good old debate.

  1. Hi there

I am studying to be a Primary School teacher and art is something that really interests me and that I would love to bring more of into the Primary classroom.

Sometimes I think teachers shy away from a lot of art activities as they are perhaps deemed to messy but the children would get so much out of learning different techniques.

On my placement I decided to carry out an art project using paint and glitter and the children just loved it. They had not had the chance to work with Paint a lot.

yeah i guess art teachers are lucky in ways, most children seem to enjoy being creative, convincing them is can be enjoyable isnt normally our big challenge, as you say, clearing up the mess probably is!
ive been using a book recently by Betty Edwards its called Drawing on the right side of the brain. it gives examples of really useful and simple drawing techniques and excercises. great for all age groups and even good for wee ice breakers or end of lesson activities. theres one in the libray - have a look

  2. I called this option Children, Creativity and Computers and I hope that you will all get the opportunity to be creative in your response to the class activities. But I am curious... does ICT feature to any great extent in pupils' creative activities in schools?
